NRL Round 24 Preview - Warriors v Panthers @ Mount Smart Stadium

New Zealand Warriors v Penrith Panthers @ Mount Smart Stadium

Preview – It’s a huge Friday night clash as the Warriors and Panthers collide in Auckland, with both sides trying to keep their Top 4 hopes live. The Warriors blew a golden opportunity to go equal 4th losing 27-26 to the Bulldogs in a game they never really controlled and conceded some soft tries. The Panthers were finally punished for their poor form with Newcastle causing a shock upset, winning 20-12 at Pepper Stadium.

New Zealand Warriors’ Scouting Report - The Warriors lose a crucial member of their spine with Blake Green out injured. He is replaced by Mason Lino in the halves. Tohu Harris is named to make his comeback in place of Leivaha Pulu on the bench. Shawn Johnson suffered an ankle injury against the Bulldogs last week, but has been named to start.

Penrith Panthers’ Scouting Report - Tyrone Peachey moves into the halves to partner Nathan Cleary with Dallin Watene-Zelezniak shifting back at fullback in a major reshuffle.  Christian Crichton is recalled on the wing. Young hooker Wayde Egan starts at 9 in place of Sione Katoa.

Verdict - Panthers by 1-8

Hard game to call, as Penrith might enjoy playing a side on the same footing as them on the ladder. They have really struggled against the lower sides this year, but have already flogged the Warriors once this season. The Warriors’ form has probably been more consistent than Penrith, however they were disappointing last week. Going on a gut feeling this week and going for the Panthers, as they have a decent record over in New Zealand, and will enjoy playing as underdog after being heavy favourites in their last four games.
