NRL Round 23 Preview - Panthers v Knights @ Pepper Stadium

Penrith Panthers v Newcastle Knights @ Pepper Stadium

Preview - The Panthers are on the prowl to lock up a Top 4 spot as they host the struggling Newcastle Knights at Pepper Stadium. The Panthers came from behind for the third straight game this time with an even more miraculous escape, coming from 16-6, with five minutes to go, to score two late tries before Nathan Cleary kicked the winning field goal in Golden Point. The Knights were outclassed 18-4 by the Warriors.

Penrith Panthers’ Scouting Report - The Panthers lose one of the key members of their spine with James Maloney out until the finals with a knee injury. Tyrone May starts at five-eight and James Tamou returns from injury in the front row, pushing Moses Leota and Wayde Egan on to the bench. Jack Hetherington is out suspended.

Newcastle Knights’ Scouting Report - Nathan Brown has so far named an unchanged side, although he did hint that Kayln Ponga could be rested.

Verdict - Panthers by 10-20 in a high scoring game

Hard to completely trust the Panthers right now, but there still winning without being anywhere near their best. The Knights are really battling at the moment, and I think two of their best players in Pearce and Ponga looks a little banged up. Think this game will be high scoring, with most of the tries coming from the home side as they continue to win without looking a genuine Premiership force.
