NRL Round 22 Podcast - Raiders v Tigers @ GIO Stadium
Canberra Raiders v Wests Tigers @ GIO Stadium
Preview - The Raiders and Tigers meet at GIO Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Canberra have scored over 200 points in their last four games against the Tigers, so they really have the wood over them. The Tigers have had a less than ideal week with their coach Ivan Cleary considering whether to go back to Penrith, so I can’t see how that hasn't affected their preparation here. However, I think the Tigers are capable of causing an upset here, given the Raiders have nothing to play for, but given their record and events of the past week, I will lean towards the Raiders with little confidence.
Canberra Raiders’ Scouting Report - Ricky Stuart has named an unchanged side from the one that capitulated in the second half against the Panthers. Blake Austin remains in the centres with Sam Williams at five eight.
Wests Tigers’ Scouting Report - Malakai Watene-Zelezniak replaces Corey Thompson, who is out for the season, on the wing. Luke Garner starts in the second row, with Elijah Taylor shifting to lock, and Matt Eisenhuth to the bench.
Verdict - Tigers by 6-16 in a high scoring game
Just going on pure gut feeling here and going with the Tigers. I know they have a horrible record against the Raiders, but they have way more to play for and Benji Marshall has remarkably never lost a game in Canberra in his career. The Raiders can score points, but they’re defensively a mess at the moment, and if the Tigers turn up with their tackling boots I reckon they might sneak home to keep their final’s hopes alive.
