NRL Round 9 Preview - Knights v Rabbitohs @ McDonald Jones Stadium

Newcastle Knights v South Sydney Rabbitohs @ McDonald Jones Stadium

Preview - The high flying Knights will be gunning for four straight victories when they host the Rabbitohs at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday Night. The Knights ground out an impressive 18-12 victory against the Sea Eagles at Brookvale last week, in a game they trailed at half time and were on the back foot for long periods. The Rabbitohs blew a golden opportunity for a third straight win, blowing a halftime lead to go down to the Broncos 24-20 and go to 4-4 on the season.

Newcastle Knights’ Scouting Report - The Knights are unchanged after a gutsy win over Manly on the road. Connor Watson did a solid job in his first game back in the halves, running the ball strongly and scoring a try. Kayln Ponga was once again the difference, setting up the match winning try with a touch of class in drawing his man in and leaving Dylan Walker clutching at thin air.

South Sydney Rabbitohs’ Scouting Report - Youngster Campbell Graham replaces Richie Kennar on the wing who is out for the season. Greg Inglis has really hit his straps the past few weeks, and is playing with a lot more confidence after his return from an ACL.

Verdict - Rabbitohs by 6-14 in a high scoring game

Hard game to call but I think Souths should get the points if they can tighten up some of their defence. The Knights have been excellent this season, however last week they came up against a Manly side down on troops and down on confidence, and I don’t think they will get that luxury against the Rabbitohs this week. Like most Knights’ games this season, I expect them to compete for 80 minutes, however I think Souths have more points in them and can score 4 tries, which will be enough for victory.
