5 Quick Points (Roosters v Bulldogs, Warriors v Storm, Broncos v Cowboys

Sydney Roosters v Canterbury Bulldogs @ Allianz Stadium

1. The Roosters attack looks better than any other side early in this competition when they get it right.

2. There are no more dangerous outside backs in the game, attacking the high ball, than the Roosters trio of Ferguson, Tupou and Kenny-Dowall.

3. The Roosters still have not quite found the balance between attacking football and discipline, turning the ball over cheaply and conceding some silly penalties.

4. There were some good signs for the Bulldogs in this game. They out-muscled the Roosters for the first 25 minutes and managed 5 tries. In the end, it was goal kicking that cost them.

5. Brenko Lee has made a good start to his Bulldogs’ career - setting up a couple of tries he looked dangerous throughout.

New Zealand Warriors v Melbourne Storm @ Mount Smart Stadium

1. This game was played in almost monsoonal conditions. With that being the case, there were some outstanding tries and set skills on show in such unfavourable conditions.

2. The Storm, after 2 weeks, I think confirmed themselves as Premiership favourites. They have gone to two tough grounds in Belmore and Mount Smart, in rough conditions, and got the job done.

3. I did not think it possible the Storm could improve on their defensive prowess of last season when they conceded just 12.7 points per game. However, two rounds into 2017 and they have conceded just 16 points, at an average of 8 per game.

4. The Warriors once again played in patches. After a really poor start, they put up 10 straight points and had a 3rd straight try disallowed. Then they disappeared for the rest of the game. Steve Kearney has a lot of work to do to turn around this team.

5. It will be interesting to see if Kieron Foran is thrown straight into the fire against the Bulldogs this week. The Warriors have looked to struggle so far to find a partner to ease the burden on Shaun Johnson in the opening two games.

Brisbane Broncos v North Queensland Cowboys @ Suncorp Stadium

1. It just keeps happening. I'm sure plenty of people were thinking eventually there is going to be a one-sided game, or relatively quiet affair between these two teams. However, we got served up another Golden Point classic.

2. I think what people love about these two teams is that when they face off, the ruck speed is fast and there is a real lack of niggle. It makes for an open exciting game of football.

3. I'm not sure how Johnathan Thurston lands those field goals when he keeps dropping the ball on its side and not its point. He did it to Brisbane famously in the 2015 GF in Golden Point, and he did it again here - after another poor drop.

4. It’s a very fine line in the NRL competition. The Cowboys were very close to losing both games to the Raiders and Broncos in golden point. With them missing Taumalolo and potentially Matt Scott this week, I think they will be breathing a sigh of relief they have some points in the bank early.

5. I was impressed with the Broncos display again here. I thought Ben Hunt had one of his best games for a long time. Their pack matched the Cowboys and played with plenty of energy. I felt they were a little unlucky to lose this game.
